The Saskatchewan NDP has announced that it will be holding a leadership convention June 6 in Regina.

To vote for the new leader you must have a valid membership card as of Friday, April 24th.

The convention, which will be held to replace outgoing leader Lorne Calvert, will take place at Everaz Place on June 6th.

As was the case in the 2001 leadership race, the Saskatchewan NDP will once again use a one-member, one-vote balloting system with all party members in good standing eligible to take part.

How to Vote

1) Come to Convention

Any member of the NDP is welcome to attend the leadership portion of the Annual Convention in Regina on June 6th. The fee to attend will be $75 (plus tax) to attend the Saturday vote. All members of the regular weekend convention will be eligible to vote on June 6th at the Queensberry centre in Regina.

2) Watch the Convention Live

Any member of the general public is invited to watch our convention live via Internet streaming on June 6th. The website will be made public as we get closer to the event. Any member who cannot attend the convention live in Regina can watch online and then cast their vote live, in real time, on the day of convention. Voting will take place online or you can use a touch-tone phone to vote on the day of the convention. This will allow people to watch the events of convention and cast their votes accordingly as people drop off the ballot (if there are multiple ballots).

3) Vote Online in Advance.

Once the membership deadline has passed all members will receive a package in the mail. This package will include the link to a website to cast your vote in advance of the convention. Members can also vote in advance by phone. All members can cast their vote, for free, online using a preferential ballot (ranking the candidates from 1 to 4). Those votes will be recorded and added to the votes cast live on June 6th to determine the winner. Note that if you vote in advance you cannot vote on convention day proper.

4) Vote by Mail in Advance.

Included in the mail-out package that all members will be receiving will be a mail-in ballot. If you are not able to vote live on convention day and are not able to vote in advance by Internet, then you can cast your vote by mail in advance of the convention using a preferential ballot (ranking the candidates from 1 to 4). Those votes will be recorded and added to the votes cast live on June 6th to determine the winner. Note that if you vote in advance you cannot vote on convention day proper.

This process is expensive, please help us pay for it!

Although casting your vote by mail or Internet will not cost you, the voter, any money, it will cost the party money. If you are voting in advance by mail, please consider including a cheque with a donation to the party. A donation of $6.25 (which is what a $25 donation costs you after your tax rebate) would help us pay for our one-member-one-vote system. If you are voting in advance via the Internet, please consider making an online donation here
